Whether you are starting a brand new agency or looking to re-staff your existing one, hiring the right team can come with a little bit of intimidation. You want to have a team that is productive, efficient, and innovative, but you also want them to work well together as a whole. While there is a slew of different personalities and talents to look at, we have a few tips for ensuring that your team isn’t just there to work – they are there to strive.
In order to have a successful agency, you need to have a successful team. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines success as “the correct and desired result of an attempt.” Wouldn’t you want a team that can help you reach that desired result? Finding the right group of people to help your agency find success can be difficult – take a look at these tips of what to consider when building a team for your agency.
Hire A-rated players
You don’t want your team to be average. You wouldn’t want someone to put a big “sell” label on some of your players. Building your agency is all you – don’t settle for anything less than that desired result. Look for members that are willing to put in work where it belongs and strive to see that end result just as much as you do.
Smart, hard-working, responsible, and productive. Those are qualities you should look for when you’re building your team. However, one of the leading factors of the success of a team is how to players can work together. Focus on a team that will work well not only individually, but also as a group.
Respect your team
The last thing anyone wants is to be hired by a boss that doesn’t respect them. When you find the right team, make sure they know that they have your respect. Do this by giving them valuable assignments, trusting their opinions, and allowing them to think freely. When people know they have your trust and respect, they are more likely to work more productively and efficiently. The good thing for you is that the productivity and efficiency of your team eventually lead to a better bottom line for your company. Respect your team, and see the results.
Hire thinkers
There are thousands upon thousands of students every year that graduate from college knowing how to “follow the rules” and “do what they are told.” Unfortunately, that probably shouldn’t be the only thing you are looking for. Sure, you want a team that will understand your leadership and ultimately do what you say – but you also want thinkers. The type of entrepreneurial people that are always coming up with something new. Maybe it’s a new client, maybe it’s a good idea, maybe it’s a bad idea. But ideas are something to start with, bad or good. Without fresh ideas and someone who is constantly innovating and thinking, how are you going to get anywhere? You never know, that thinker could come up with the idea that defines your future success. Don’t just hire “rule followers,” look for the thinkers as well.
Finally, be confident in what you have
When your team sees how confident you are in the future of your agency, it’s contagious. Show your players how great you think this thing can be, and take them there. Without confidence, there is no moral. There is no drive. Allow your team to feed off of your energy so that they can equally contribute to that desired result. When you have confidence, you have determination. Every agency needs determination to find success and to ultimately reach the end result.
